Living in Lafayette is wonderful. Just ask the people who live here!
"School rankings among the tops in the state...one of the lowest
crime rates in the county... restaurants top notch, commute better than
most...prestige town that's considered one of the best addresses in the
East Bay... residents upper middle class or rich, well-educated,
suburban, traveled, managerial or professional. At least one Nobel
laureate... many kid activities, a lot of them organized by parents. The
most popular seems to be soccer and swimming, and for girls, dancing and
gymnastics, for boys, little league…Straddles Highway 24, the freeway
to San Fran....Mix of trendy and traditional..." McCormack's Guide
to Contra Costa County.
Squirrels
Restaurant:
Squirrels is a Lafayette landmark. It’s like a step back in time to the 50’s and
60’s. I personally think they have the
best breakfasts in town! Try their #2 (eggs, toast and potatoes).
Their clam chowder on Friday is also especially good.
Just up the block around the corner on Oak Hill Rd. is
Millie's
Kitchen,
another
Lafayette breakfast/lunch favorite for many years. It doesn't look at
all
fancy, more like someone's kitchen with lots of tables, but it's very popular.
Voted Best Breakfast 1995 & 1996, Best Pancakes 1999 in Diablo
Magazine's Best of the East Bay. Best Breakfast Joint 2001.
Diablo Foods :
Outstanding
local market featuring prime seafood, meats, poultry
and produce.
A
pioneer school teacher, Margaret Bickerstaff planted the redwood trees
in the front of the store back in the late 1800’s.
Voted Best Meat Counter, Diablo Magazine, 2002. My favorite place for
meats, poultry, fish and produce!
Trader Joes:
Newcomer in town
is a popular specialty market. They feature many organic
and specialty products.
Lafayette Park
Hotel:
At the east end of Mt. Diablo Blvd., Lafayette’s first
class hotel. Very pleasant facility, good restaurants.

Gigi's:
Former site of Kaffe Barbara, this new restaurant is off to a good
start. Remodeled interior is very attractive.
 Baja
Fresh
is a popular Tex/Mex restaurant in the new Lafayette Town
Center complex.
